撒野作風 本地創作人想發圍就不能跟風

2019 年行走了八個月,又好像經歷了漫長的三五七年,回聽 Matt Force 五月中推出的同名個人專輯,竟已恍如隔世。

「我就知道你唔會留低,因為你已經光榮踏上咗通往天國嘅樓梯」——〈告別〉,Matt Force,2019

這首〈告別〉的歌詞寫於 2018 年,但卻成為近三個月來不少年青獨立樂迷內心的主題曲,無論他們感到需要與之「告別」的是輕生者、政治犯、家園……都能在 Matt Force 筆下的一字一句中找到抒發。這種既入俗又脫俗的書卷氣質,近年來可能只有 My Little Airport 的阿 P 一人作代表而矣。

而一如 MLA (My Little Airport)所代表的「維港唱片」派系,Matt Force 背後同樣有「撒野作風 WILDSTYLE RECORDS」這個本地音樂廠牌作推手。廠牌創辦人 YoungQueenz 是把 trap 文化引進香港(再由米奇老味神奇屋及連登仔合力推廣至本地的年輕群眾耳中)的領頭人物,由他與本地另一次文化尖子 Tedman Lee 主理的「龍寨」演出系列,更是把香港的 trap 產物逆輸出到歐洲等地。而他也是率先把 vaporwave 美學應用於本地創作的先驅之一,2017 年在社會上引起極大回響的火炭麗淇背後便有「撒野」加持。

以日本匠人姿態 演繹「輕狂」的Hip Hop音樂

曾經聽過一個說法,謂「撒野」旗下的單位都是 YoungQueenz 自己的分身,畢竟他不論在 Triple G 抑或 Matt Force 等人的作品背後都參與了不少幕後工作,而各單位的成品又往往風格迴異。譬如 Matt Force 就以 90 年代東岸流行的 boom bap 為主幹,概念上很強調大鼓和小鼓所帶來的能量和衝擊,再揉合由 Nujabes 發揚光大的日式 jazzy 元素。

而且 Matt Force 個人形象貼近日本的「匠人」姿態,無論在說唱風格、敘事角度上均予人沉穩精煉的感覺,不只與香港 hip hop 圈子目前祟尚外放輕狂的風氣形成濃烈對比,甚至在「撒野」同儕中也算是個異類。

說起異類,「撒野」其實還有一位炎炎夏日也會作西裝打扮示人,由中醫學生 Allex 化名的 Room307。

與 Matt Force 相比,Room307 則代表了世界音樂如今的另一潮流,由 Clario / Cuco / Yellow Days 等人所掀起的「bedroom pop」風尚。Room307 去年以卡式帶發行同名EP,據主腦 Allex 所言都是其於馬鞍山的家中睡房創作錄製,單曲〈 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rcvWXlkmlTc”>MK Sadboy Kui Ng Dou Lui As Usual〉以港式英文(Kongish)文體書寫,音樂則展示了一種具數碼化的復古 lo-fi 美學,更重要的是,一點也不 hip-hop。他與 Matt Force 二人於九月在佐敦的 Terrible Baby 有一場合演,可說是一場本地音樂的未來風格前瞻。

回看 Matt Force 為〈告別〉製作的 MV,其實是「撒野」成立七年以來的一次「晒馬」,不禁有人材濟濟的感嘆;在香港有意發展音樂事業的,經常要思考自己在面對市場時,應該「行咩路線」的掙扎,據聞,即使是有人氣有銷量的樂隊,如今在創作新專輯前仍然要先寫計劃書給公司中的市場部門同事審批。

若主流公司們願意更多借鑑「撒野」,又或 Merry Lamb Lamb 和新青年理髮廳背後的「雙運球唱片」,便會明白年輕創作者需要的只是一些「啱 vibe」的同路人,在行業中爭取資源和合適的曝光場合。畢竟嘛,是金子總會發光。
