在很久很久以前（據說是14世紀），在印度的安德拉邦發現了顆重達105.60carat的鑽石，很多人相信它曾經是世界上最大顆的鑽石。要是誰擁有了這鑽石，誰便是世界上最有權勢的人。
鑽石經歷了一連串的戰爭，無數易主，到了在1739年，當時的土庫曼王朝的國王Nadir Shah攻佔了印度德里偷走了當時Mughal帝國孔雀寶座及那顆鑽石，看見鑽石時驚嘆：Koh-i-Noor！在波斯語中是 “Mountain of Light”的意思，從此，鑽石有了「光之石」的命字。
今天，Koh-i-Noor鑲嵌在英國的伊麗莎白的王后冠之上。
